Abstract

The rapid advancement of information and communication technology has transformed how individuals, especially students, interact socially and academically. Gadget use has become an integral part of daily life; however, excessive and uncontrolled use often leads to behavioral dependency that affects both social and educational dimensions. This study aims to analyze the implications of gadget addiction on students’ social interaction and learning achievement. Employing a quantitative approach, data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to students of MAN 1 Majalengka and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with AMOS 24.0 and SPSS 26.0. The findings demonstrate that gadget addiction has a significant negative effect on both social interaction and learning performance. Students who excessively use gadgets tend to show decreased engagement in face-to-face communication, introverted attitudes, and reduced collaboration with peers. Academically, prolonged gadget use lowers focus, motivation, and cognitive effort, resulting in diminished academic outcomes. Nevertheless, appropriate and moderate use of gadgets can serve as an effective medium to support learning activities and improve digital literacy. The study highlights the importance of integrating digital discipline, parental guidance, and school-based awareness programs to optimize gadget use while mitigating its adverse impacts on students’ social and academic development.
