This study examines the influence of democratic and permissive parenting styles on the learning achievement of fifth-grade students at SD GMIT Tobu. A qualitative descriptive methodology was employed to gather data via structured observations, interviews with the parents of 20 students and the homeroom teacher, and the documentation of the students' academic records. The results show that the students' families mostly used two types of parenting: democratic and permissive. Twelve students raised under a permissive parenting style showed lower academic performance, while eight students raised under a democratic parenting style demonstrated higher achievement. The research demonstrates that democratic parenting, defined by reciprocal communication, direction, and appropriate limits, enhances students' responsibility, motivation, and educational results. In contrast, permissive parenting, which gives children excessive freedom with limited parental control or guidance, tends to hinder students’ academic development. These results highlight that parenting style has an important effect on children’s cognitive, affective, and behavioral development, ultimately influencing their academic achievement. The study suggests that parents need to better understand effective parenting practices to support their children’s educational success.
